It wasn’t as crazy as Week 6, but College Football’s Week 7 had its fair share of excitement for the fans. More of the top seeds held serve, but there were come close calls and a bunch of shootouts!
Unheralded but still undefeated, Marshall climbed into the Top 25 by dropping 49 points on Middle Tennessee State. West Virginia & Texas Tech flew up and down the field, with the Mountaineers winning 37-34; and unranked North Carolina hung with sixth-ranked Notre Dame in a high scoring battle, losing 50-43. In a battle of unranked teams, Liberty beat Appalachian State by a whopping 55-48 in overtime! And in a top-ten Saturday night special, no. 5 Baylor beat no. 9 TCU 61-58 in a Texas showdown.
Fans in the state of Mississippi continue to have tons to cheer about. Old Miss stuck it out at no. 3 in the nation, and Mississippi State went from unranked in preseason to the top of the rankings, passing Florida State! The Seminoles didn’t help their cause by letting unranked Syracuse hang around for much of their game. And Week 6 made the third week in a row that the Mississippi State Bulldogs defeated a top-ten opponent!
Week 8 promises to provide the same kind of excitement this season’s given us so far. With the standings so topsy-turvy, there are lots of intriguing matchups. The biggest game on the schedule looks like no. 2 Florida State against no. 5 Notre Dame…who do you think will take this battle of powerhouses?
